Maria and her sisters
Chapter 5 – What now?
While the sisters had visited the house, Malnis had screamed himself hoarse at their escape. He told his allies, ‘GET-THE-SISTERS-HERE-IN-FRONT-OF-ME!’ His allies had set out that night itself to capture the sisters.
----------NEXT MORNING----------
Reema woke up to a lot of commotion
upstairs. She crept on tiptoe to see what was going on and nearly cried out,
‘How in the WORLD did you find us!!?’ Because the two allies had turned up right at
the front door, demanding to see the hotel rooms in front of Prist, who was
very frightened and did not utter a word. It was seconds before the allies
could give up on Prist and search the rooms without a search warrant. So Reema
crept downstairs and quickly woke up the other two. They dressed at lightning
speed and were ready to leave a minute afterwards. ‘Climb through the window,
the front door is dangerous.’ ‘Please tell us where are we going and what is the
danger?’ ‘Afterwards!’ ‘No no! I want the answer right NOW!’ ‘AFTERWARDS!’ this
way Reema managed to control Maria, but Reema's voice had trailed upstairs, and Reema knew it. She held up Maria because Maria was small,
and put her on the window sill so that she could jump out. Maria did, and came
Jose’s turn. A footstep was getting nearer and nearer. ‘Quick!’ said Reema.
Jose climbed up on the sill and jumped too. Then suddenly the door burst open and
the allies stood there, ready to attack. ‘Oh no!’ Reema cried and tried to jump
away too, but the allies crossed the room in two strides and each held one of
her arms. ‘Leave me! Someone help!’ Came
Reema’s pleading voice as they carried her all the way to the house which they
had escaped from. One of them called out ‘Boss! Here is the eldest one!’ And
Malnis came hurrying towards her. He held her arm and dragged her to a room.
There he threw Reema on the bed and drew a knife. Reema knew, in a flash, that
he would ask the whereabouts of her sisters. He had his back turned, examining
his knife. Reema quietly crossed the room towards the window, silently withdrew
it, and jumped out. There she did not look back and ran, ran all the way back
to the same old window which had helped Maria and Jose escape. They both hugged
Reema as she came, yelling, ‘Oh, we heard you crying ’Save me!’ We were so
scared, Oh Reema!’ She and her sisters quickly ran towards the gate which
separated her town and the other town. They pushed open the gate, and stepped
in the safe territory of the new town.
