Maria and her sisters
Chapter 9 – Die or cry?
Reema anxiously awaited Jose’s arrival. She was dead scared. Reema
sat near the window, thinking, “He ruined my life. I was such a fool, to marry
that bastard. My sisters – I ruined their life too. I should have taken Ma’s
advice. Ma- ” Reema remembered her Ma, and two great tears fell on her lap,
Reema wiped them quickly. Reema cried to herself, “Ma, come back Ma! I miss
you! Ma, Pa!!!!” Reema was so angry at Malnis that she started hitting her head
on the wall, crying, “Aaaaargh!!!”
-----------On the other hand-----------
Jose was scared. She could see Maria bound by the ropes. Jose started
moving her hand as much as she could to find something. As luck would state it,
Jose found a small piece of glass in her pocket. She quickly grazed it against
her ropes, and the glass broke. Jose then used the sharp end to cut herself
free. Then she started working on the ropes near her neck, but the chair
underneath her slipped and she was hanging.
-----------On the other hand-----------
Reema set out to find her sister. First she went to the Doom Day
Jail. There she explored the rooms, to find Jose hanging from her neck, all
blue. Reema tried to break the door, but it didn’t work. She screamed in frustration
and punched the door. The door opened. Reema went inside, found a piece of
glass, and with one swift movement of her hand, cut the rope. Then she lowered
Jose on the ground. She knelt close to Jose, and by no breathing she considered
Jose dead. Then, Reema heard a loud bang.
Prist said, “Am I too late?!” Reema said, “What the- how- how?” Prist
saw Jose’s body and said, “Oh no, I really am too late! The cursed prophecy!
She is dead.” He said to Reema. Reema held her sister’s blue hand in her hand
and said softly, “Jose, no, wake up, I can’t live without you… Please… you
never let me down, why are doing this now? Wake up…” Prist noticed a drop of
tear on Reema’s lap. He walked over to her, and took her hand in his. Reema
looked at him, and both looked into each other’s eyes, the feeling of love
growing…
Reema fell into Prist’s arms and cried out her heart on his shoulder.
Another drop of tear fell on Jose’s eyes, and they slowly fluttered open. Jose saw
Reema and Prist, and she exclaimed, “I’m alive! Look! See here!!!” And Jose
hopped about the jail, presenting her delight. Reema was happy beyond all
limits. But she cried, “Jose! Loo-Look at you!”
Jose saw her hands, and she paused. Her hand were slowly turning skin
from blue, and it was a miraculous sight. Then when her whole body had become
normal, she snapped back to the present and said, “Maria! We forgot her!!”
Reema walked to Maria’s jail, to find it open and Malnis standing there, one
hand on the chair, and another on Maria’s hair, pulling it so that Maria’s head
is tilted backwards and she does not see the Arrival…
