As we all know “Solar Energy” is the future and DSK Sundarban Housing Society situated in Hadapsar area of Pune has installed a rooftop solar system. This Society is spread over around 8 Acre of land parcel having 8 buildings and 377 Flats in all.

These are some of the salient points about Solar Panels used in our society:

1. Our Society has installed 150-kilowatt (kW) rooftop solar power generation system with 225 panels in two phases in the years 2018 to 2020. The power generated takes care of 80 to 90 % of its requirement and lights up common areas and lifts and Society is saving Rs. 2.5 Lakhs per month on electricity expenses, said Mr. Arindam Biswas, chairman of the Society.

He further added “Installation of 150-kilowatt (kW) rooftop solar power generation system is equivalent to planting 1500+ trees.” Society has incurred cost of Rs. 84 Lakhs to install 150 kW solar system and with saving of around Rs. 2.5 lakhs per month, society is expected to recover said cost in next 3 to 4 years.

Society Chairman, Mr. Biswas further added that “Apart from saving money, solar system also helps in reducing the carbon footprint and it is environment friendly”.

2. We use Polycrystalline Panels manufactured by Havells Company in India.

3. We have 3 types of Solar Panels on basis of capacity:

        § 50Kwh

        §  30Kwh

        §  70 Kwh

 4. We have also the net metering system. In this system, electricity generated by the solar system is sent over to the distribution grid and is adjusted among us as per our consumption.

5. We use remote monitoring to check the energy generation.

6. Efficiency of Solar Panels In our society is about 13-17% efficiency.

Differences Between the 3 types of Solar Panels

Solar system also helps in reduction of non-renewable energy resources like water and coal. The more power is generated using solar system, less hydro power would be required and this will result in getting fresh water. This will also reduce our dependency on water to produce the electricity so also producing hydro power can run out water and cause damage to the environmental balance.
