Interview with Anushka Waghmare

INTERVIEW

❓ What is your name?

💭 My name is Anushka Waghmare

❓ What were your grades?

💭 In 12th grade, in The Board Of ISE, I scored 98.5%.

❓ How did you feel when you got your grades?

💭 Our grades were supposed to come out at 3pm, at sharp 3pm the site opened up. I was calculating my results. First thing which came up on the screen were a bunch of 90s, and first thing which I saw was my English grades, 96%. That was really really gratifying, because I worked hard on my subjects for getting that score, and rest of the results in my other subjects also impressed me, and I was genuinely so happy, I can't express my happiness in words!

❓ What were your difficulties while trying to achieve this goal?

💭 Couple of them actually. First, after 10th grade you have an option to opt for Science, Commerce, and Humanity. Many people thought that Humanity is only for those who have a lower percentage. The major obstacle in my studies was- People didn't take my subject seriously, they thought that the subject which I was studying was very easy... anyone can score that much. Initially, it used to bring me down, but later I learnt to cope with it, I made myself believe that what I was studying was NOT easy. It is just as difficult as any other Science or Commerce, because it required lot of investment of your time as well as your power.

And then I had to manage between lot of activities, I used to work for this organization called 'Dynamic Training', and in it you work 6 hours in one whole day, we had our event coming out. So, in the middle of that, when we are working, we had to manage our preview, we also had to manage our project submissions, and we had to prepare for our own exam. That balance was a little difficult for me, and I'm glad it was difficult, because I learnt a whole lot of new things from that experience.

❓ Who helped you? Would you want to credit him/her for your achievement?

💭 My major support since I was born till this day is, was, and will be my mom. She is always there to support me emotionally, mentally, physically, and when any other problem arises. My mom would first ask me to calm down, like every other mother who knows that something is bothering their offspring. She helped me come to a firm conclusion as to where and how to target that particular problem. Secondly, my friends. I have had great friends who have always supported me, ever since my school year. I don't have a lot of friends, in school year I made 5 friends and in college I made 2 friends. They were always there for me, no matter what condition it was. And lastly, I could do nothing, absolutely nothing without my teachers. They taught and explained the concepts in my syllabus, and they were always there to help me up with a caring hand. Yes, I would like to credit everyone mentioned here for my achievement.

❓ To achieve this goal, what was your study pattern?

💭 I really didn't have any schedule in mind, just a to-do list. I never restricted myself to time limits, I just knew that I had to do, like, 3 chapters in a day, for example. I would do it according to how I felt that day. My major technique was - being organised, without restricting myself to a schedule and creating, like, an unbelievable schedule which I certainly knew I wouldn't complete. And, secondly, if I was reading any chapter, and if I got stuck with a term I didn't seem to remember or know, I would make sure that I looked up that term and go through every page of it. There is literally no, absolutely no word in my Textbook which I haven't overlooked, just because I didn't know the meaning of it. Overlooking a word wasn't waste of time for me, but instead an opportunity to learn something new.

❓ What variations of games did you play in your playtime?

💭 I didn't go down to actually 'play', as such, but I did workout a lot at home to keep myself healthy, I went down for walks, sometimes, sometimes I just used to switch on the TV for some while, I also did some yoga to keep my mind relaxed for an hour, and I kept up a diet of nutritious food to keep healthy and also to ensure that nothing hinders with my performance.

❓ Can you provide the Sundarban kids who are inspired by you with some advice?

💭 Yeah, sure! Sometimes, kids are bound to feel pressurized by the school, they might not feel like going to school, they just don't feel motivated enough. The kids try to look for some motivation which they can gain from other people, or someone else. It is most important that you are first available for yourself, and you motivate yourself from within, that 'Not being dependent'. It's not like you shouldn't depend on your friends, or your family, it's like that, if you are isolated and alone, you need to control yourself and make yourself understand that 'What do you need to and how are you supposed to do it'. If you are able to motivate yourself from within, that will be the major factor for a successful life. And, very important, ENJOY WHAT YOU DO. If you don't want to study for 5 hrs a day then it's not necessary to study for 5 hrs everyday. If you devote 3 hours of your time, or 2 hours, whichever suits you, but you pay your full concentration on studies in that span of time, you don't really have to stretch yourself to such an extent that you start feeling exhausted and you don't feel like studying the next day. And just one thing more, SURROUND YOURSELF WITH ONLY THE RIGHT PEOPLE. You should make sure that wherever you are, make sure you are surrounded with right and good friends because they are a major impression of your personality, or how do you take your decisions. If you have the right friends and mind set and right way, I'm sure it's going to pay you off in the end.
