The fruit is called so as its flattened whorls resemble the Indian dessert - Jalebi. Scientifically named Pithecellobium dulce, it is also known as Manila Tamarind, Madras Thorn, Monkey Pod and Camachile. The evergreen tree is 20m high, has branches with thorny spines, deciduous leaves and fragrant greenish white flowers turning into brown or red fruits or pods.
